Ms. Cricket
To Deborah Winchell, Ms. Cricket to her students, teaching dance is
not just what she does it's what she loves. Ever since she was a
young girl she had a passion for dance. From a young girl dancing
in her daddy's basement, to performing as a teen, and eventually forming
Cricket's Performing Arts she has made dance her passion in life.
Deborah began her dance training in Central PA with Marie Shaw, Sharon
Morey, and The Harrisburg Dance Conservatory. She has continued her
training throughout the country with such notable teachers as Dennis Daniels,
Marcea Lane, Juan Dinzey, Suzy Taylor, Gus Giordano, Thommie Walsh, Robert
Christopher, and Bob Rizzo. Through her strong belief in continued
training she has presented Master Classes with guest teachers such as Bob
Thomas, Travis Breen, and Bonnie Slawson.
Before becoming a studio owner Deborah was active as a performer.
Her performance credits include numerous recitals, The Young Peoples Talent
Festival, The Women's Club of Reading, Hershey Lodge and Convention Center,
Albright College Festival of Trees, and The Hershey Hot Air Balloon Classic.
Believing that performing is a valuable addition to ones dance education
she formed Crickets Performing Arts Repertory Ensemble in 1994 to provide
her students with the opportunity to participate in community performances
and dance competitions.
Her choreography has been recognized in regional and national competitions
and her students have been acknowledged for their participation in community
events. Deborah has also been recognized by Dance Teachers
Now Magazine, Who's Who in-- Education, Entertainment, Young American Professionals,
and Emerging
Leaders in America. In 1997 she formed ArtsReach to provide dance
education to at risk and underprivileged children.
When Deborah decided to become a full time teacher she did so with the
same passion she had as a student and performer. Prior to founding
Crickets Performing Arts she was on staff as a teacher at Jackie Lynn's
Dancing Steps, and Dance Center of Manheim, manager/teacher Sharon Morey
School of Dance, Hershey Academy of Gymnastics, former co-owner of D&
D Connection and B's Performing Arts, and Dance Center of Manheim.
She has also been guest choreographer for Baron Stage Productions, Boscov's,
choreographic advisor to Roxanne Quinn, Stiegel Elementary Arts Days. Additionally
she was asked to be dance assistant to Juan Dinzey, dancer/choreographer
for C&C music factory, during his seminars in PA, NJ, and MD.
In 1993 B's Performing Arts was renamed Crickets School for the Performing
Arts in Manheim where she continues to share her love of dance with children.
She is a member of AAPHERD, Professional Dance Teachers Association,
and International Teachers of Dance. Deborah is committed to providing
her students with quality dance education through motivation, education,
and passion. |
Kristin
Barnett
The magic of dance began for Kristin at the tender age of 4 with tap
at Carol's Academy of Dance in Lancaster. While she thought it made too
much noise and wanted to stop, her mother convinced her to persevere, and
today her feet won't stop tapping.
She soon added to ballet, jazz, lyrical and tumbling to her resume and
continued to study at Carol's until 1994. An original member of Dance Inc.,
Kristin competed for many years earning numerous regional and national
awards for groups and solos alike. She performed on WGAL's News 8 Live
at Noon and cheered with the Central Penn Piranha. She continued her dance
education at Betsy Daily School of Performing Arts in Berwyn, PA where
she also competed and performed.
With years of training under her belt, Kristin joined the staff of Willow
Street Dance-Steps in 1995 teaching all techniques. Soon thereafter, she
formed a dance company, and has graciously watched it grow from 10 to 60
amazingly talented dancers. Kristin's choreography and technique classes
have taken her competition students to win national titles, and many awards
including the Tap Excellence award and top group awards at both the regional
and national levels.
Kristin has furthered her education with classes at Broadway Dance Center,
and numerous conventions including Manhattan Dance Project, Wild, Tremaine
Dance Conventions, NYC Dance Alliance, West Coast Dance Explosion, Dance
Olympus, and Dance Power Express. She has completed two years of the Broadway
Dance Center's Teacher Workshop and a year of the winter intensive classes.
She has had the pleasure of training with tap masters Jason Janus, Danny
Wallace, and Gregory Hines and looks forward to furthering her dance training
in the
future.
Kristin is a graduate of Conestoga Valley High School and Millersville
University with a BS in Speech Communication and International Studies.
Her career ventures have landed her at Willow Valley Resort as the Marketing
Manager. Dance is a welcomed and essential part of Kristin's life that
she will continue as long as her feet and legs will allow. She is excited
to begin her classes here at Cricket's and cannot wait to meet everyone.
"Whoever says sunshine brings happiness, has never danced in the rain." |
Miss
Sapphira
Miss Sapphira, one of the original members of CRDE, has been dancing
since the age of three. Even at such a young age she knew she wanted to
be a performer. She entered her first competition at the age of three and
has not looked back. Among her accomplishments are regional and national
awards at competitions sponsored by Star Power, Star Quest, Stars of Tomorrow,
American Dance Awards, All American Talent Awards, Dance Expressions, and
Swing Fling. Her performances have included The Hershey Hot Air Balloon
Fest, 6 Flags America, Mrs. Pennsylvania Globe Pageant, Zoetropolis, and
the Boscovs Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Along with volunteering her talents to local organizations and community
events, she was a guest performer with the Donetsk Ballet. In addition
to her classes at Crickets she has studied with Robert Christopher (completing
both the student and teacher programs), Professional Dance Teachers Association,
Dance Power Express, and IDTI.
In 1999 she joined the staff at Cricket's teaching Lyrical, Combo, Jazz
& Hip Hop. She loves to choreograph routines and make dance a fun experience
for everyone. In addition to dancing, Sapphira also works at Hats Off a
Vous Salon and works at th Pennsylvania Renaissance
Fair. She is a graduate of Annville Cleona High School as well as a
graduate of the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center. In May of
2007 she had an adorable little boy named Pierce. We hope to have a future
star on our hands to perform at Crickets. She plans on
continuing in her mothers footsteps and dance her heart out for the
rest of her life. Sapphira is very special and we all love her very much. |
Miss
Sarah
Miss Sarah has been dancing at Crickets’ Performing Arts since 1996
and has been teaching for Ms. Cricket since 2002.
Dancing since the age of seven, Miss Sarah has taken ballet, tap, jazz,
lyrical, pointe, acrobatics, and hip-hop during her many years of dance
training. She has also recently studied ballroom and Latin dancing. Outside
the studio, Miss Sarah has taken many master classes including the Robert
Christopher Seminars, Dance Power Express Workshops, and ITDI Seminars
in addition to studying choreography under Travis Breen.
As a teacher’s assistant in middle school and high school, Miss Sarah
helped in creative movement, juvie lyrical, combo, juvie tap, acro, and
beginner/teen tap. Working with Ms. Cricket, she learned how to communicate
in different ways to reach out to each child’s method of learning. Although
every child can learn to dance, not every child can learn to dance the
same way.
In the performing world, Miss Sarah has performed at various competitions
along the east coast including nationals with the trio “Here Comes the
Sun” where the dance was one of ten dances chosen to perform at the end
in the best of show showcase. She has also performed at Six Flags, the
Mrs. Pennsylvania Globe Pageant, Zoetropolis, the ABC/Boscov’s Thanksgiving
Parade as a part of FanTAPulous, and at the USADANCE Lancaster Chapter.
Miss Sarah is a 2005 graduate of Warwick High School and resides in
Lititz. She is engaged to Crickets Company alumni Craig Casey and will
be married in June of 2010. Miss Sarah continues to study dance, and is
planning to dance until she can’t move anymore. “Dance is not just a part
of life, it is life. It is a passion.” |
